The economic, social, political, and health crises of the 21st century have highlighted the persistence of gender inequalities. Labor and wage disparities are two manifestations of these inequalities and also the cause of others, such as the unequal distribution of caregiving labour. This reality roots go back in time and has to be investigated from a historical perspective. This book brings together ten studies on the sexual segregation of labor, the social construction of qualifications, and wage differences in various economic sectors and locations throughout Spain from the 16th to the 20th centuries. It shows diversity and allows for the observation of changes and continuities. It also provides interpretations of the factors that have contributed to their recurrence. For all these reasons, it constitutes an essential reference work on the history of gender inequalities in labor markets.
The book is available in a printed publication and in a digital open access version that can be downloaded at http://hdl.handle.net/2445/214514
